Fetal Pig Dissection
Standard:
7.LS.5a I know plants and animals have levels of organization for structure and function, including cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, & the whole organism.
7.LS.5b I know organ systems function because of the contributions of individual organs, tissues, and cells. The failure of any part can affect the entire system.
Dissection lab Conclusion...
1.My Experience handling the pig was almost easy, it was interesting to so an animals intestines, and the smell wasn't that bad of a smell then i expected to smell at first. My pig had little hove and barley no fingers, it did have eyes yet and a few more intestines needed, it smelled funky because of the chemicals it carried in the body and its development, The bag that it was carried in was hard and felt hing but the fetal pig itself was rubber-ish because it had a small layer of skin also it was deveoping it every time it gets older. This is my first time dissecting and my hypothesis was if the fetal pig had a 4 chambered heart. my expectations was right because when i saw the heart it looked like it did have a 4 chambered heart and when i touched it i felt the small holes that the blood entered in.
2. The difference between a pregnancy period of a pig and human is that the pig has around 4 months to get out of the mother's stomach and a human has about 9 months for a baby to grow in the mother's stomach.
3.My pig was about 14 inches from snout to tail. My fetal pig was maybe in the mother's stomach for 115 days or a little more longer.
4.My pig's gender was a girl because it had a "v" shaped line near its tail and it may have eggs already in its sack.
5.The pig we had had toes/hove but not that many digits but maybe 3 or 4 that we can see. it didn't have hair yet but pure skin all around. We did't check if it had teeth because it was hard to open the mouth and we didn't have them to do so. The pig's skin color was a light peach color because it wasn't exposed in the sun yet i guess...
6. The umbilical cord was located where the belly button is located. It was located near the left leg almost. I had to cut the umbilical cord form the mother's sack and i saw where the umbilical cord was located and we cut it off after. Its important to the unborn pig because that's where the mother eats and transports food and nutrients to the unborn piggy.
7.The biggest organ of the chest cavity is the lungs.
8.yes we were able to see some parts of the complete bone structure of the pig, i did have an opportunity to move the pig's bones. i did believe the pig had much cartilage because form its own mouth it can eat what it wants and when the pig grows up some of the cartilage will be a bone mass.
9.This could be a real world connection because when we enter high school we will have to dissect another animal and maybe we will know what to do and it will be a review for us. I learned about the bone structure and where everything is mostly located.

REFLECTION:
1.HOW DOES THIS ASSIGNMENT RELATES TO THE STANDARD?
This assignment relates to the standard because we had to dissect a fetal pig that was still in the sack of the mother's pig. This assignment relates to the standard because we had to make a Dissection Lab Conclusions of different questions of the pig of how it looked like, the gender, how big it is, and etc. This assignment also relates to the standard because we had to learn the different organs and systems of the pig that we had to cut open.
2.What steps did you take to complete and do well on this assignment?
The steps i took to complete and do well on this assignment is first listen to the instructions that Ms.Juarez had us listen to. Second i had to write down my hypothesis of what the pig might have and what i have to do with the pig. Then we walked over to a different room and Ms.Juarez gave us our sack of the pig for us to take apart the pig's sack and take out the fetal pig to start dissecting the pic the next day. The next day we dissected the pic and got to see the organs, bone structure, cartilage, and etc.
3.This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that i can dissect an animal for example a pig and see most of the important parts of its body. This assignment demonstrates that i can tell which part i should cut down and know which part goes on what part of the system. This assignment demonstrates that i can name each tool used and the names of the systems it uses.
4.I could have improved on this assignment by...
I could have improved on this assignment by cutting in the right way because it looked not straight. I could have put my paper to the nearest dried place because it got dirty.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult other classes while you are still a student?
I can apply the skills i learned from this assignment in the real world because if i want to be a surgeon and i need to cut a person's body to know what is wrong, i can use the name of the tool. Also i can know how to do the process.
